Faircount produces Navy League publication for USS New York Commissioning
This past Saturday November 7, 2009 in New York City, thousands gathered to witness the commissioning of a very special warship, built using 7.5 tons of metal from the wreckage of the World Trade Center in its construction.
New York, November 7, 2009 – Faircount Media Group, based in Tampa and the Navy League of the United States in New York City have cooperated to publish a very special publication to commemorate the commissioning of the latest San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock (or LPD), USS New York (LPD21). In her bow she carries 7.5 tons of steel melted down from the ruins of the World Trade Center. Everywhere she goes she will be a visible and defiant reminder of the 3,000 lives lost in the attack eight years ago on 9/11: the worst attack ever suffered on American soil.
The publication entitled ‘First Responder’, an acknowledgment to the men and women of fire, police and other emergency services in New York and New Jersey, covers the construction of the ship, its application in modern marine warfare, as well as the history of the five previous ships to bear the name ‘New York.’ The ship’s commissioning was held on Pier 86 of Manhattan’s west side and was attended by the families of 9/11 victims as well Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, Governor of New York, David Paterson, Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus, and CNO Admiral Gary Roughead. A complimentary copy of ‘First Responder' was given to all 6,000 attendees on the pier.
Ross Jobson, Publisher commented: “Our partnership with the U.S. Navy through the Navy League of the United States spans several years now and is a great opportunity for us to extend the message of these incredible ships and what they mean, not just to the American people, but to allies of the United States the world over. We are proud to be associated with USS New York and the symbolic message it will carry forever, and look forward to delivering a publication that celebrates America’s latest premier warship in all its glory."
