Canadian Navy Centenary

The Naval Service Act which passed in 1910 provided for five branches of activity: a naval force, and a supporting officers’ training school; fisheries protection; hydrographic surveys; tidal and current surveys; and a wireless service to tie the whole thing together. Prior to this act in the colonial and immediately post-Confederation era, maritime security of Canada was formally in the hands of Britain’s Royal Navy. 100 years later Canada's celebrates the centenary of its maritime forces with a series of events and a special commemorative publication entitled: "Canadian Navy Centenary - Celebrating a National Institution".
