The business of supplying warfighters is a multi-billion dollar industry, the science of which is defense logistics. This supply chain is a crucial element of all military planning and is led by organizations such as the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), Army Materiel Command (AMC) and Naval Supply Systems Command NAVSUP). The challenge of managing and controlling the flow of goods to the large appetite of the U.S. military machine literraly is an art and science. Ammunition and food are not the only essential requirements of an army or navy.
